The rating does not move on this one

SEER2 is certified to the pair rather than the outdoor unit, so on most condensers the figure shifts with the air handler. The 5TWR4 certifies at 14.3 SEER2 with every indoor unit we carry — 5TEM4, Hyperion 5TAM5 and 5TMM5 alike.

That simplifies the decision: pick the indoor unit on cabinet fit, airflow and heat-kit capacity rather than on efficiency. If you want the rating to climb with the pairing, that is the 5TWR6, which runs up to 16 SEER2 depending on what it is matched to.

Either way the certified reference number for each pairing is published on the complete system listings, and you can check any combination yourself before you spend anything.

Why a heat pump, and where this one fits

No furnace and no gas line — the circuit that cools in August reverses in January and heats, far more cheaply than strip heat alone. On the handful of genuinely cold mornings the strips in the air handler carry the load, which is why heat-kit sizing matters on the indoor unit you pair this with.

14.3 SEER2 is the current federal minimum for the South rather than a compromise, so this is a legal, current-generation system. The honest case for it is a rental, a flip, or a house you are not staying in long enough to earn back the efficiency premium. The Climatuff® compressor and the weatherproof cabinet are the same as the higher series — durability is not where Trane economises.

Line up your installer before it ships. This is the step people skip, and it is the one that causes trouble — equipment sitting in a garage while you ring round for someone free. It ships crated on a freight truck. Orders typically ship within 3–7 business days. A complete system travels as two crates — condenser and air handler — which can arrive on different days. The carrier calls to book a delivery window. That appointment is when your equipment arrives — not the ship date. Answer the call; an unanswered one is the most common cause of a delay.
