Overview

About this system

The Trane 5TWR4 heat pump condenser matched to the 5TMM5 Compact Plus wall-mount air handler — a complete 14.3 SEER2 system that heats and cools from one outdoor unit, sized for spaces where a conventional upflow or horizontal air handler won't fit. The wall-hung indoor unit frees the floor entirely, making this the practical match for garages, bonus rooms, sunrooms, additions and tight utility closets, while the 5TWR4's Climatuff® compressor and weatherproof cabinet bring the durability Trane is known for. Runs on R-454B refrigerant to meet current federal standards.

Sold and shipped as a matched pair. 1.5 through 2.5 ton ship with the 5TMM5B0A30M21S air handler; 3 ton ships with the 5TMM5B0C36M31S. The 5TMM5 pairs with a compatible BAYHTRA5-BRK electric heat strip for supplemental heat, sold separately.

Sizing note: the 5TMM5 tops out at 3 tons, so this pairing is offered from 1.5 to 3 tons only. For 3.5 tons and above, pair the 5TWR4 with the 5TEM4 or 5TAM5 air handler instead.

Highlights

Key features

  • One outdoor unit heats and cools — no separate furnace
  • 5TMM5 Compact Plus mounts on the wall and frees the floor entirely
  • Suited to garages, additions, sunrooms and tight utility closets
  • Climatuff® compressor, R-454B refrigerant
  • 1.5 to 3 ton only — the 5TMM5 tops out at 3 tons
  • Ships as two crates — condenser and air handler

Trane is the badge most homeowners ask for by name. Buying the pair is what makes the rating on this listing the rating you actually get.

  • The Climatuff® compressor. Trane puts compressors through accelerated life testing that most manufacturers do not, and the field failure rates follow. On a component that runs into four figures to replace once the warranty is out, that is where the premium actually goes.
  • The pair is what gets rated, not the condenser. AHRI certifies an outdoor unit against one specific air handler. The reference number on this listing is for that exact combination — which is also the number a rebate administrator or a permit office asks for.
  • Warranty that rewards registering. Five years on parts as standard, extending to ten on most components when you register within 60 days at trane.com.
  • Every technician works on Trane. Parts availability fifteen years from now is not something you have to think about, and you will not struggle to find someone willing to service it.
  • It holds its value. "It's a Trane" is a line in a listing when the house sells, and an inspector who sees one moves on. That is worth something on a component nobody can see working.

How buying direct works — the whole process, start to finish 6 steps

You are buying the equipment from us and the labour from an installer you choose. Two numbers instead of one bundled quote — which is the point, but it does mean you are the one connecting them. Here is the whole sequence.

  1. Order the equipment. The price on this page is what you pay us. Nothing about installation is included in it, and nothing is added later.
  2. Line up your installer before it ships. This is the step people skip, and it is the one that causes trouble — equipment sitting in a garage while you ring round for someone free. You need a licensed HVAC professional; opening a refrigerant circuit requires EPA certification. Ask specifically what they charge to install customer-supplied equipment. How to find one.
  3. It ships crated on a freight truck. Orders typically ship within 3–7 business days. A complete system travels as two crates — condenser and air handler — which can arrive on different days. Delivery is to your address on a liftgate truck for one flat price, with nothing to choose at checkout. What delivery costs.
  4. The carrier calls to book a delivery window. That appointment is when your equipment arrives — not the ship date. Answer the call; an unanswered one is the most common cause of a delay.
  5. Inspect it before you sign. Two minutes at the tail of the truck decide whether a damage claim works. Note any damage on the delivery receipt specifically, not just "damaged", and photograph it before it comes off the truck. What to check.
  6. Your installer fits it, then register the warranty. Line set, disconnect, whip, thermostat and equipment pad are not included — your installer supplies those. Registering within 60 days of installation takes about four minutes and extends parts coverage from five years to ten. Warranty terms.
