Overview

About this system

The Everwell CAC-15 heat pump matched to the FAHC front-return air handler. Heating and cooling from one outdoor unit, in the cabinet that fits a closet a standard-return handler will not.

What ships

  • Outdoor unit — Everwell CAC-15 R-454B heat pump condenser, GoldFin™-coated all-copper coil
  • Indoor unit — Everwell FAHC front-return air handler
  • Two crates, shipped together as an AHRI-certified matched pair

Front return, and when it matters

The return duct enters the front of the cabinet instead of the side or bottom, and the crate is smaller — 23.2 × 17.7 × 39.4 inches against the AHC's 22.83 × 25.6 × 47.63. That is the whole reason this version exists: hallway closets in older Florida houses often have no route to bring a return in from below. Measure the space before you choose between the two.

What it actually rates

14.3 SEER2 cooling and 7.5 HSPF2 heating, certified across all four sizes — for this pairing specifically, not for the condenser on its own. Everwell publishes a certificate per pair and the link for your size is in the documents on this page. Quoted a different combination elsewhere? Check whether it is certified.

How a heat pump heats

It runs the cooling cycle backwards, moving heat from outside air into the house rather than burning fuel to make it — cheaper to run than strip heat, and well suited to this climate. Capacity does fall as the outdoor temperature drops, and the unit stops producing heat during a defrost cycle, which is what the FAHC electric heat kit covers.

Sizing — 1.5 to 3 ton

Four capacities. The FAHC series stops at 3 ton; for 3.5 through 5, the standard-return AHC version carries the range. Manual J first — oversizing a heat pump short-cycles it in both seasons.

Before you order

  • Must be installed by a licensed HVAC professional — EPA certification is required to open a refrigerant circuit, and the manufacturer warranty depends on it
  • No 15 kW or 20 kW heat kit on this series — choose the AHC version if you need that output for backup heat
  • Line set, disconnect, whip, thermostat and equipment pad are not included
  • Ships as two crates — read receiving a freight delivery before delivery day
Highlights

Key features

  • 14.3 SEER2 cooling plus heating, AHRI-certified as a matched pair
  • AHRI certificate linked on every size — check the rating yourself
  • FAHC front-return air handler suits tighter closets
  • One outdoor unit heats and cools — no separate furnace
  • No 15 kW or 20 kW heat kit on this series — choose AHC if you need one
  • Ships as two crates — condenser and air handler

Everwell is where the price per BTU is lowest — a complete matched system here costs less than some condensers do on their own.

  • Current-spec refrigerant throughout. R-454B across the central range. Nothing is last-generation stock being cleared ahead of the phase-out.
  • GoldFin coil coating. Built for high-humidity and salt-air environments where standard coil coatings fail early — the same problem the all-aluminum coils solve elsewhere in our catalogue, addressed a different way.
  • AHRI certified and ETL listed, with a certificate published per matched pair. You can pull the certificate and check the rating yourself before you spend anything — the link is in the documents on this listing.
  • Complete matched systems from $2,698. That is less than some Trane condensers cost on their own, before you have bought an air handler.
  • Both halves from one manufacturer. Condenser and air handler engineered together, so the pairing is not something you have to go and verify yourself.

How buying direct works — the whole process, start to finish 6 steps

You are buying the equipment from us and the labour from an installer you choose. Two numbers instead of one bundled quote — which is the point, but it does mean you are the one connecting them. Here is the whole sequence.

  1. Order the equipment. The price on this page is what you pay us. Nothing about installation is included in it, and nothing is added later.
  2. Line up your installer before it ships. This is the step people skip, and it is the one that causes trouble — equipment sitting in a garage while you ring round for someone free. You need a licensed HVAC professional; opening a refrigerant circuit requires EPA certification. Ask specifically what they charge to install customer-supplied equipment. How to find one.
  3. It ships crated on a freight truck. Orders typically ship within 3–7 business days. A complete system travels as two crates — condenser and air handler — which can arrive on different days. Delivery is to your address on a liftgate truck for one flat price, with nothing to choose at checkout. What delivery costs.
  4. The carrier calls to book a delivery window. That appointment is when your equipment arrives — not the ship date. Answer the call; an unanswered one is the most common cause of a delay.
  5. Inspect it before you sign. Two minutes at the tail of the truck decide whether a damage claim works. Note any damage on the delivery receipt specifically, not just "damaged", and photograph it before it comes off the truck. What to check.
  6. Your installer fits it, then register the warranty. Line set, disconnect, whip, thermostat and equipment pad are not included — your installer supplies those. Registering within 60 days of installation takes about four minutes and extends parts coverage from five years to ten. Warranty terms.
