Our promise on every order

  • Typically ships in 3–7 business days — crated and moved by LTL freight from Southwest Florida. The carrier then schedules delivery with you.
  • A genuine AHRI-certified pair — the certified reference number is published in the specifications below, so you can look the rating up yourself before you order.
  • Check your match in seconds — put in the two model numbers you were quoted and see whether that pair is AHRI-certified before you spend anything. Not sure, or not our equipment? Send them to us and we will look them up by hand.
  • 30 days to return unopened equipment — full returns policy.
What's included, and what your installer supplies Ships as two crates by freight. Installation is not included.

In the box: the outdoor condenser and the indoor air handler, the matched pair for the size you choose (model numbers are in the specifications below).

Your installer supplies the line set (or reuses yours if it qualifies: reuse or replace?), electrical disconnect and whip, thermostat and control wire, condensate drain and float switch, a condenser pad or wall brackets, and the permit.

Electric heat is not included. If you want it, add the matching Trane / RunTru heat kit.

Installation is by your licensed HVAC contractor. How to find one.

Overview

About this system

The Trane 5TTR4 condenser matched to the 5TEM4 air handler — the entry point into genuine Trane equipment, and the system most homeowners mean when they say they want "a Trane." Single-stage cooling at 14.3 SEER2, built to the durability standard the brand is known for.

What ships

  • Outdoor unit — Trane 5TTR4 condenser with Climatuff® compressor, 14.3 SEER2, R-454B
  • Indoor unit — Trane 5TEM4 convertible air handler with ECM blower
  • Both units crated and shipped together as an AHRI-matched pair

What you are actually paying for

The Climatuff® compressor is the reason this equipment has the reputation it does. Trane runs compressors through accelerated life testing that most manufacturers do not, and the failure rates show it. On a component that costs four figures to replace out of warranty, that difference is the entire value proposition.

The rest follows: a powder-coated galvanized-steel cabinet built for permanent outdoor exposure, and a corrosion-resistant coil that holds capacity in humid and salt-air environments.

The 5TEM4 air handler

An ECM blower rather than a fixed-speed PSC motor. In practice that means quieter operation, steadier airflow, and better humidity control — the ECM can run longer at lower speed, and long low-speed run times are what actually pull moisture out of a house. In a humid climate that matters more than the SEER2 number.

The convertible cabinet installs upflow, downflow or horizontal, so it fits a closet, an attic or a garage without a different part number.

Sizing — 1.5 to 5 ton

Seven capacities. Get a Manual J load calculation from a contractor who has walked the property; we will not size from square footage. Send us model numbers and we will confirm a certified match.

Before you order

  • Must be installed by a licensed HVAC professional (EPA Section 608 certification is required to open a refrigerant circuit); manufacturers' warranty terms generally require licensed installation
  • Line set, disconnect, whip, thermostat and equipment pad are not included
  • The BAYHTR electric heat kit fits the 5TEM4 if you need supplemental heat
  • Warranty terms are set by the manufacturer and may require registration within 60 days of installation. Review them before you buy: see our warranty page

Highlights

Key features

  • 14.3 SEER2 cooling, AHRI-certified as a matched pair
  • Climatuff® compressor and Spine Fin outdoor coil
  • 5TEM4 converts to upflow, downflow or horizontal airflow
  • R-454B low-GWP refrigerant throughout
  • Ships as two crates — condenser and air handler
  • AHRI-certified pairing, the combination manufacturers' terms are written around

Trane is the badge most homeowners ask for by name. Buying the pair is what makes the rating on this listing the rating you actually get.

  • The Climatuff® compressor. Trane puts compressors through accelerated life testing that most manufacturers do not, and the field failure rates follow. On a component that runs into four figures to replace once the warranty is out, that is where the premium actually goes.
  • The pair is what gets rated, not the condenser. AHRI certifies an outdoor unit against one specific air handler. The reference number on this listing is for that exact combination — which is also the number a rebate administrator or a permit office asks for.
  • Published warranty terms. Trane's own limited warranty offers longer parts coverage when registered within 60 days, under Trane's conditions. Read them at trane.com before you buy.
  • Every technician works on Trane. Parts availability fifteen years from now is not something you have to think about, and you will not struggle to find someone willing to service it.
  • It holds its value. "It's a Trane" is a line in a listing when the house sells, and an inspector who sees one moves on. That is worth something on a component nobody can see working.

How buying the equipment yourself works — the whole process, start to finish 6 steps

You are buying the equipment from us and the labour from an installer you choose. Two numbers instead of one bundled quote — which is the point, but it does mean you are the one connecting them. Here is the whole sequence.

  1. Order the equipment. The price on this page is what you pay us. Nothing about installation is included in it, and nothing is added later.
  2. Line up your installer before it ships. This is the step people skip, and it is the one that causes trouble — equipment sitting in a garage while you ring round for someone free. You need a licensed HVAC professional; opening a refrigerant circuit requires EPA certification. Ask specifically what they charge to install customer-supplied equipment. How to find one.
  3. It ships crated on a freight truck. Orders typically ship within 3–7 business days. A complete system travels as two crates — condenser and air handler — which can arrive on different days. Delivery is to your address on a liftgate truck for one flat price, with nothing to choose at checkout. What delivery costs.
  4. The carrier calls to book a delivery window. That appointment is when your equipment arrives — not the ship date. Answer the call; an unanswered one is the most common cause of a delay.
  5. Inspect it before you sign. Two minutes at the tail of the truck decide whether a damage claim works. Note any damage on the delivery receipt specifically, not just "damaged", and photograph it before it comes off the truck. What to check.
  6. Your installer fits it. Line set, disconnect, whip, thermostat and equipment pad are not included — your installer supplies those. If the manufacturer's terms allow, register the equipment. Trane and RunTru offer longer parts coverage when registered within 60 days, subject to their conditions. Check the manufacturer's terms before you buy. Warranty terms.
