Our promise on every order

  • Typically ships in 3–7 business days — crated and moved by LTL freight from Southwest Florida. The carrier then schedules delivery with you.
  • Manufacturer specifications, published — model number, capacity, efficiency and refrigerant are all listed below, so you can check this against what your contractor specified.
  • Check your match in seconds — put in the two model numbers you were quoted and see whether that pair is AHRI-certified before you spend anything. Not sure, or not our equipment? Send them to us and we will look them up by hand.
  • 30 days to return unopened equipment — full returns policy.
What's included, and what your installer supplies Ships as one crate by freight. Installation is not included.

In the box: the outdoor condenser only. It comes with its factory refrigerant charge. It needs a matched indoor unit: check the AHRI match, or read replacing just the condenser.

Your installer supplies the line set (or reuses yours if it qualifies: reuse or replace?), electrical disconnect and whip, thermostat and control wire, condensate drain and float switch, a condenser pad or wall brackets, and the permit.

Installation is by your licensed HVAC contractor. How to find one.

Overview

About this unit

The same platform, with the efficiency step

The A5AC5 is the A5AC4's Trane-built platform with more coil surface and a higher-efficiency compressor. Certified between 15 and 16 SEER2 depending on tonnage when it is matched with the A5AHC air handler — the exact figure belongs to your specific pairing, and the AHRI reference number is published on every listing here so you can read it rather than take our word for it.

Who should pay for the step up

If you live in the house and pay the cooling bill, this is the one to buy. Through a Florida or Texas cooling season, moving from 14.3 to roughly 15.5 SEER2 is a measurable reduction on the largest electrical load in the building, recovered over a service life counted in a decade or more. If the property is a rental and the tenant pays the power, the A5AC4 is the more rational purchase and we would rather tell you that than sell you the more expensive box.

Rebates change the arithmetic

Matches at this efficiency level can reach ENERGY STAR qualification, which is the threshold most utility rebate programs use. Check it before you buy: a rebate on the efficient unit can close much of the price gap with the minimum-efficiency one, which changes which unit is actually cheaper. Programs are administered by your utility and change annually — our rebate guide explains where to look them up.

More efficiency, not more complexity

R-454B refrigerant, a single-stage compressor, all-aluminum coils, no inverter electronics. The efficiency here comes from the physical size of the heat exchanger and the quality of the compressor rather than from variable-speed control, which means there is no additional circuit board to fail in year nine. That matters for a system you intend to keep and have serviced by whoever is available on a July afternoon.

Matching it correctly

Pairs with the RunTru A5AHC. Because the rating belongs to the certified pair, buy the combination that appears on the AHRI certificate — a mismatched indoor coil is the most common reason a new system underperforms its label. The complete system is also listed as one item if you would rather not match it yourself.

Why RunTru by Trane?

See everything we carry from RunTru by Trane

RunTru is Trane's value line. Designed, built and tested by Trane, sold without the Trane price.

  • Same manufacturer, same engineering discipline. RunTru is not a rebadged import — it is Trane's own product, built to Trane's standards. The badge is different; the build is not.
  • Single-stage and straightforward. Fewer parts to fail, and any technician in the country can service it without specialist training or proprietary tools. On a rental you do not want to be waiting on a specialist in August.
  • All-aluminum coils. These resist the galvanic corrosion that eats copper-and-aluminum coils in coastal and high-humidity air — a real advantage in exactly the climates this equipment sells into.
  • Published warranty terms. Built by Trane Technologies. RunTru publishes its own warranty terms, similar in structure to Trane's. Check them at runtruhvac.com/warranty.
  • Built for the jobs it sells into. Rentals, flips, builder work and straight like-for-like replacements — where what matters is that it runs, that it is cheap to service, and that it did not cost premium money.

How buying the equipment yourself works — the whole process, start to finish 6 steps

You are buying the equipment from us and the labour from an installer you choose. Two numbers instead of one bundled quote — which is the point, but it does mean you are the one connecting them. Here is the whole sequence.

  1. Order the equipment. The price on this page is what you pay us. Nothing about installation is included in it, and nothing is added later.
  2. Line up your installer before it ships. This is the step people skip, and it is the one that causes trouble — equipment sitting in a garage while you ring round for someone free. You need a licensed HVAC professional; opening a refrigerant circuit requires EPA certification. Ask specifically what they charge to install customer-supplied equipment. How to find one.
  3. It ships crated on a freight truck. Orders typically ship within 3–7 business days. A complete system travels as two crates — condenser and air handler — which can arrive on different days. Delivery is to your address on a liftgate truck for one flat price, with nothing to choose at checkout. What delivery costs.
  4. The carrier calls to book a delivery window. That appointment is when your equipment arrives — not the ship date. Answer the call; an unanswered one is the most common cause of a delay.
  5. Inspect it before you sign. Two minutes at the tail of the truck decide whether a damage claim works. Note any damage on the delivery receipt specifically, not just "damaged", and photograph it before it comes off the truck. What to check.
  6. Your installer fits it. Line set, disconnect, whip, thermostat and equipment pad are not included — your installer supplies those. If the manufacturer's terms allow, register the equipment. Trane and RunTru offer longer parts coverage when registered within 60 days, subject to their conditions. Check the manufacturer's terms before you buy. Warranty terms.
