Where the incentives are

Heat pumps have drawn the most generous rebate programs of any residential HVAC category, because electrifying heating is what utilities and state programs are paying people to do. The federal 25C tax credit is not part of that any more — it ended for systems installed after 31 December 2025.

Utility and state rebates remain, and ENERGY STAR–eligible matches can qualify. Eligibility depends on the exact condenser and air handler pairing, not the condenser alone — check your specific combination against current program requirements before you order, and keep the AHRI certificate, because rebate administrators ask for it. Efficiency across two seasons

A cooling-only system earns its rating for part of the year. A heat pump runs in both seasons, so the same efficiency improvement is applied against roughly twice the operating hours. The payback maths on stepping up from the 14.3 SEER2 5TWR4 is meaningfully better on a heat pump than on an air conditioner, and it is the single best reason to spend the money here rather than elsewhere. Note the 5 ton pairing certifies at 14.3 SEER2 rather than 15.2 — the per-variant figure is on the specifications panel.

The 5TEM4's ECM blower supports that with steady airflow and long low-speed run times — which is also what controls humidity in cooling mode.

  2. Line up your installer before it ships. This is the step people skip, and it is the one that causes trouble — equipment sitting in a garage while you ring round for someone free.   3. It ships crated on a freight truck. Orders typically ship within 3–7 business days. A complete system travels as two crates — condenser and air handler — which can arrive on different days. Delivery is to your address on a liftgate truck for one flat price, with nothing to choose at checkout. What delivery costs.
  4. The carrier calls to book a delivery window. That appointment is when your equipment arrives — not the ship date. Answer the call; an unanswered one is the most common cause of a delay.
  5. Inspect it before you sign. Two minutes at the tail of the truck decide whether a damage claim works. Note any damage on the delivery receipt specifically, not just "damaged", and photograph it before it comes off the truck. What to check.
