Overview

About this system

The Trane 5TTR6 condenser matched to the 5TEM4 air handler — 15.2 SEER2 cooling with the same Climatuff® compressor and the same build quality, for the homeowner who is staying put and would rather pay once.

What ships

  • Outdoor unit — Trane 5TTR6 condenser with Climatuff® compressor, 15.2 SEER2, R-454B
  • Indoor unit — Trane 5TEM4 convertible air handler with ECM blower
  • Both units crated and shipped together as an AHRI-matched pair

15.2 versus 14.3

About six percent better cooling efficiency, which sounds marginal until you multiply it across a twenty-year service life in a climate that runs air conditioning eight months a year. The honest framing: this upgrade pays back on a house you intend to keep, and does not on one you intend to sell.

The other argument used to be the federal tax credit. That one is gone — the 25C credit ended for systems installed after 31 December 2025. What is left is utility and state rebates, and ENERGY STAR–eligible matches can still qualify, which in several regions covers a real share of the difference between this system and the 5TTR4 version. Eligibility is tied to the specific condenser and air handler combination, so verify your exact pairing against your utility's current program rather than assuming. Our 2026 incentives guide covers what remains.

The 5TEM4 air handler

The ECM blower is doing real work here. Higher-efficiency condensers benefit disproportionately from steady, correct airflow, and an ECM holds its target across a dirty filter or a restrictive duct run where a fixed-speed motor simply moves less air. Longer low-speed cycles also strip more humidity, which is what actually makes a house feel cool.

Convertible cabinet — upflow, downflow or horizontal from the same unit.

Sizing — 1.5 to 5 ton

Seven capacities. An oversized high-efficiency system is worse than a correctly sized standard one: it short-cycles, never dehumidifies, and wears out early. Manual J, from someone who has seen the house.

Trane is the badge most homeowners ask for by name. Buying the pair is what makes the rating on this listing the rating you actually get.

  • The Climatuff® compressor. Trane puts compressors through accelerated life testing that most manufacturers do not, and the field failure rates follow. On a component that runs into four figures to replace once the warranty is out, that is where the premium actually goes.
  • The pair is what gets rated, not the condenser. AHRI certifies an outdoor unit against one specific air handler. The reference number on this listing is for that exact combination — which is also the number a rebate administrator or a permit office asks for.
  • Warranty that rewards registering. Five years on parts as standard, extending to ten on most components when you register within 60 days at trane.com.
  • Every technician works on Trane. Parts availability fifteen years from now is not something you have to think about, and you will not struggle to find someone willing to service it.
  • It holds its value. "It's a Trane" is a line in a listing when the house sells, and an inspector who sees one moves on. That is worth something on a component nobody can see working.

How buying direct works — the whole process, start to finish 6 steps

You are buying the equipment from us and the labour from an installer you choose. Two numbers instead of one bundled quote — which is the point, but it does mean you are the one connecting them. Here is the whole sequence.

  1. Order the equipment. The price on this page is what you pay us. Nothing about installation is included in it, and nothing is added later.
  2. Line up your installer before it ships. This is the step people skip, and it is the one that causes trouble — equipment sitting in a garage while you ring round for someone free. You need a licensed HVAC professional; opening a refrigerant circuit requires EPA certification. Ask specifically what they charge to install customer-supplied equipment. How to find one.
  3. It ships crated on a freight truck. Orders typically ship within 3–7 business days. A complete system travels as two crates — condenser and air handler — which can arrive on different days. Delivery is to your address on a liftgate truck for one flat price, with nothing to choose at checkout. What delivery costs.
  4. The carrier calls to book a delivery window. That appointment is when your equipment arrives — not the ship date. Answer the call; an unanswered one is the most common cause of a delay.
  5. Inspect it before you sign. Two minutes at the tail of the truck decide whether a damage claim works. Note any damage on the delivery receipt specifically, not just "damaged", and photograph it before it comes off the truck. What to check.
  6. Your installer fits it, then register the warranty. Line set, disconnect, whip, thermostat and equipment pad are not included — your installer supplies those. Registering within 60 days of installation takes about four minutes and extends parts coverage from five years to ten. Warranty terms.
