Same rating, different system

This pairing certifies at 14.3 SEER2 — the same as the 5TWR4 matched to the standard 5TEM4 air handler. So be clear about what the upgrade is: it is not efficiency. Running costs will be close to identical.

The case for Hyperion on a heat pump is runtime. A heat pump works in both seasons rather than one, so the indoor unit accumulates roughly twice the annual hours of a cooling-only system. Noise you would tolerate for four months a year you have to live with for twelve, and whatever sits in the air path is in your air twice as often. That is where the cabinet and the blower earn their money, and none of it is measured by SEER2.

Air quality, and why it pairs with a heat pump

The Hyperion's double-walled cabinet encloses its insulation entirely, so nothing sheds into the air stream, and the epoxy-coated aluminium coil resists the residue and odour build-up that accumulates on a standard coil over years of runtime. The 5TAM5 is also ready for the Trane CleanEffects™ whole-home air cleaner if you want to take it further — sold separately, and worth discussing with your installer before the ductwork is finalised.

The Vortica™ multi-speed blower runs long and quiet rather than hard and short. That matters most in winter, when heating cycles are longer and happen at night.

How it heats

The refrigerant cycle reverses and moves heat from outdoor air into the house rather than burning fuel to create it. Efficient well below what most people expect — there is usable heat in 40°F air. Capacity does drop as it gets colder, and electric heat strips cover the coldest hours and the defrost cycles. Across the Gulf Coast and Southeast that is a small share of the season.

  3. It ships crated on a freight truck. Orders typically ship within 3–7 business days. A complete system travels as two crates — condenser and air handler — which can arrive on different days. Delivery is to your address on a liftgate truck for one flat price, with nothing to choose at checkout. What delivery costs.
  4. The carrier calls to book a delivery window. That appointment is when your equipment arrives — not the ship date. Answer the call; an unanswered one is the most common cause of a delay.
  5. Inspect it before you sign. Two minutes at the tail of the truck decide whether a damage claim works. Note any damage on the delivery receipt specifically, not just "damaged", and photograph it before it comes off the truck. What to check.
