Your installer supplies the line set (or reuses yours if it qualifies: reuse or replace?), electrical disconnect and whip, thermostat and control wire, condensate drain and float switch, a condenser pad or wall brackets, and the permit.

AHRI certifies the condenser and air handler together rather than the condenser alone, and the certified figure moves with tonnage — the smaller sizes in this pairing reach 15.2 SEER2 while the larger ones certify lower. The exact number for the size you pick is on the specifications panel.

That distinction matters beyond pedantry: rebate programs are written against the certified system figure for your specific pairing and size, not against the condenser's own rating.

Why efficiency compounds on a heat pump

An air conditioner earns its efficiency rating during the cooling season and sits idle the rest of the year. A heat pump runs in both, so the same rating is applied against roughly twice the operating hours. The gap between the 14.3 SEER2 A5HP4 and this system is small on paper and considerably larger across twelve months of utility bills.

ENERGY STAR–eligible matches can qualify for utility and state rebates, and heat pumps in particular have attracted the more generous programs. The federal 25C tax credit is no longer among them — it ended for systems installed after 31 December 2025. Eligibility for what remains depends on the exact condenser, air handler and tonnage combination, so confirm it against current program requirements before ordering, and keep the AHRI certificate, because rebate administrators will ask for it.   • Must be installed by a licensed HVAC professional (EPA Section 608 certification is required to open a refrigerant circuit); manufacturers' warranty terms generally require licensed installation
  • Supplemental heat is not optional in most climates. The BAYHTR electric heat kit fits the A5AHC and covers the coldest hours and defrost cycles
  • Line set, disconnect, whip, thermostat and equipment pad are not included — the thermostat must support heat pump operation

How buying the equipment yourself works — the whole process, start to finish 6 steps

You are buying the equipment from us and the labour from an installer you choose. Two numbers instead of one bundled quote — which is the point, but it does mean you are the one connecting them. Here is the whole sequence.

  1. Order the equipment. The price on this page is what you pay us. Nothing about installation is included in it, and nothing is added later.
  2. Line up your installer before it ships. This is the step people skip, and it is the one that causes trouble — equipment sitting in a garage while you ring round for someone free. You need a licensed HVAC professional; opening a refrigerant circuit requires EPA certification. Ask specifically what they charge to install customer-supplied equipment. How to find one.
  3. It ships crated on a freight truck. Orders typically ship within 3–7 business days. A complete system travels as two crates — condenser and air handler — which can arrive on different days. Delivery is to your address on a liftgate truck for one flat price, with nothing to choose at checkout. What delivery costs.
  4. The carrier calls to book a delivery window. That appointment is when your equipment arrives — not the ship date. Answer the call; an unanswered one is the most common cause of a delay.
  5. Inspect it before you sign. Two minutes at the tail of the truck decide whether a damage claim works. Note any damage on the delivery receipt specifically, not just "damaged", and photograph it before it comes off the truck. What to check.
  6. Your installer fits it. Line set, disconnect, whip, thermostat and equipment pad are not included — your installer supplies those. If the manufacturer's terms allow, register the equipment.
