Overview

About this unit

The indoor half of an Everwell system, in the standard-return configuration that suits most residential installs — and the one that takes the big heat kits.

Standard return, and what that means

The return duct enters the cabinet from the side or the bottom, which is the conventional arrangement and the one most upflow closets and attic platforms are already built for. If your existing handler pulls its return from below, this is the direct replacement. Where the closet cannot accommodate that, the front-return FAHC is the alternative.

It takes strip heat up to 20 kW

This is the practical reason to choose the AHC over the front-return version. The WTM heat kit range runs from 5 kW to 20 kW.

That matters in two situations. On a heat pump, the strips carry the house through a defrost cycle and through the coldest hours when the outdoor unit's capacity falls. On an air-conditioner system with no furnace, the heat kit is the only heat in the house — and the FAHC series does not offer the 15 kW or 20 kW sizes.

Why there is no SEER2 figure on this page

An air handler has no efficiency rating of its own. SEER2 is certified for a matched pair — a specific outdoor unit against a specific indoor one — so the number belongs to the combination, not to either box separately. Pair this with a CAC-15 air conditioner or a CAC-15 heat pump and the certified rating for that pairing is published on the complete system listing, with the AHRI certificate linked. Or check any pairing yourself.

The GoldFin coil

An all-copper coil with a corrosion-resistant coating. The indoor coil runs wet every cooling hour, which makes it the surface that suffers most in permanent humidity — and in coastal Florida it is where standard coatings fail first.

Sizing — 1.5 to 5 ton

Four cabinets covering 1.5 through 5 ton. Match the handler to the condenser and to a Manual J load calculation from someone who has seen the property, not to the size of the unit being replaced.

Before you order

  • Must be installed by a licensed HVAC professional — opening a refrigerant circuit requires EPA certification, and the manufacturer warranty depends on it
  • Crated at 22.83 × 25.6 × 47.63 in on the 1.5–3.5 ton cabinets, 25.2 × 27.75 × 54.9 in on the 5 ton
  • Line set, disconnect, whip, thermostat and pad are not included
  • Ships on a freight truck — read receiving a freight delivery before delivery day
Highlights

Key features

  • Standard side and bottom return configuration
  • GoldFin™ coated coil resists coastal corrosion
  • Matches any Everwell CAC-15 condenser
  • R-454B low-GWP refrigerant
  • Takes WTM heat kits from 5 kW right up to 20 kW
  • AHRI and ETL certified

Everwell's indoor units are the lowest price per BTU we carry, in two return configurations so one line covers most installs.

  • Two return configurations. The AHC takes a standard return and the FAHC a front return, so an upflow closet and a tight horizontal attic run are both covered without changing brand.
  • GoldFin coil coating. Built for high-humidity and salt-air environments where standard coil coatings fail early. The indoor coil runs wet every cooling hour, which is exactly the surface that coating is aimed at.
  • Matched to R-454B condensers throughout. Nothing in the range is last-generation stock being cleared ahead of the phase-out.
  • Takes a field-installed heat kit. WTM strips for the AHC, WFM for the front-return FAHC — both listed under Installation Accessories.
  • Air handlers from $1,249. The lowest price per BTU on the indoor side of the catalogue.

How buying direct works — the whole process, start to finish 6 steps

You are buying the equipment from us and the labour from an installer you choose. Two numbers instead of one bundled quote — which is the point, but it does mean you are the one connecting them. Here is the whole sequence.

  1. Order the equipment. The price on this page is what you pay us. Nothing about installation is included in it, and nothing is added later.
  2. Line up your installer before it ships. This is the step people skip, and it is the one that causes trouble — equipment sitting in a garage while you ring round for someone free. You need a licensed HVAC professional; opening a refrigerant circuit requires EPA certification. Ask specifically what they charge to install customer-supplied equipment. How to find one.
  3. It ships crated on a freight truck. Orders typically ship within 3–7 business days. A complete system travels as two crates — condenser and air handler — which can arrive on different days. Delivery is to your address on a liftgate truck for one flat price, with nothing to choose at checkout. What delivery costs.
  4. The carrier calls to book a delivery window. That appointment is when your equipment arrives — not the ship date. Answer the call; an unanswered one is the most common cause of a delay.
  5. Inspect it before you sign. Two minutes at the tail of the truck decide whether a damage claim works. Note any damage on the delivery receipt specifically, not just "damaged", and photograph it before it comes off the truck. What to check.
  6. Your installer fits it, then register the warranty. Line set, disconnect, whip, thermostat and equipment pad are not included — your installer supplies those. Registering within 60 days of installation takes about four minutes and extends parts coverage from five years to ten. Warranty terms.
