About this unit

One box that heats and cools

A heat pump is an air conditioner that can run in reverse. In summer it moves heat out of the house; in winter it reverses and moves heat in. Across Florida and the lower South that covers effectively the whole heating season, with the air handler's electric heat strips carrying the handful of nights it cannot. There is no gas line, no flue and no combustion anywhere in the system — which is why heat pumps dominate new installations in this part of the country.

Trane's value brand, in a heat pump

RunTru is Trane Technologies' economy tier: the same company behind Trane, engineered to a simpler specification and priced for builders. On a heat pump that matters more than it does on a straight air conditioner, because a heat pump runs year round rather than seasonally. You want the reversing valve and compressor to come from a manufacturer whose parts are stocked locally in eight years' time, and you want a technician to be able to work on it without a factory-only tool.

14.3 SEER2 at the compliant floor

14.3 SEER2 is the minimum the current federal standard allows on a new split system across the southern states. For a rental, a flip, or any property where the occupant pays the utility bill, that is the rational place to buy: a current-generation unit at the lowest compliant efficiency, with nothing spent on savings you will not personally collect.

R-454B, the refrigerant going forward

This unit ships on R-454B rather than R-410A. R-410A equipment still being sold is previous-generation stock on a refrigerant in scheduled phase-down, which gets more expensive to service every year. A heat pump runs far more hours annually than an air conditioner does, so the refrigerant it uses matters more over its life.

Matching it correctly, and the part people forget

The A5HP4 pairs with the RunTru A5AHC multi-position air handler, and your SEER2 and HSPF2 ratings belong to that certified pair rather than to the condenser alone — the AHRI reference number is published on the listing. One thing buyers routinely miss: a heat pump needs an electric heat kit in the air handler for supplemental heat, and it is sized to your climate and sold separately. It is listed in our accessories, and your installer should specify the kW rating.

How buying direct works — the whole process, start to finish 6 steps

You are buying the equipment from us and the labour from an installer you choose. Two numbers instead of one bundled quote — which is the point, but it does mean you are the one connecting them. Here is the whole sequence.

  1. Order the equipment. The price on this page is what you pay us. Nothing about installation is included in it, and nothing is added later.
  2. Line up your installer before it ships. This is the step people skip, and it is the one that causes trouble — equipment sitting in a garage while you ring round for someone free. You need a licensed HVAC professional; opening a refrigerant circuit requires EPA certification. Ask specifically what they charge to install customer-supplied equipment. How to find one.
  3. It ships crated on a freight truck. Orders typically ship within 3–7 business days. A complete system travels as two crates — condenser and air handler — which can arrive on different days. Delivery is to your address on a liftgate truck for one flat price, with nothing to choose at checkout. What delivery costs.
  4. The carrier calls to book a delivery window. That appointment is when your equipment arrives — not the ship date. Answer the call; an unanswered one is the most common cause of a delay.
  5. Inspect it before you sign. Two minutes at the tail of the truck decide whether a damage claim works. Note any damage on the delivery receipt specifically, not just "damaged", and photograph it before it comes off the truck. What to check.
  6. Your installer fits it, then register the warranty. Line set, disconnect, whip, thermostat and equipment pad are not included — your installer supplies those. Registering within 60 days of installation takes about four minutes and extends parts coverage from five years to ten. Warranty terms.
