Overview

About this unit

Half the system, and half the rating

An air handler is not an accessory to the unit outside. It holds the indoor coil, the blower and the filter, and the efficiency printed on your AHRI certificate belongs to the pair rather than to the condenser. Put a mismatched coil behind a good condenser and the system will never reach the number it was sold on. The A5AHC exists so the RunTru A5AC and A5HP condensers have an indoor half they are actually certified with.

Multi-position, which is what solves the closet problem

Upflow, downflow or horizontal from a single cabinet. This matters more than it sounds, because the building dictates the orientation and the catalog does not: a Florida garage or attic usually wants horizontal, a hallway closet wants upflow, a unit sitting over a crawlspace may want downflow. One model covers all three, so nobody discovers on installation day that the wrong configuration was ordered.

The blower is what you actually feel

Capacity gets the attention, but airflow is what the room experiences. A blower that can run longer at a lower speed pulls more moisture out of the air than one that blasts and shuts off, and in the Southeast humidity is at least half of what "comfortable" means. It is also the difference between a system you can hear from the next room and one you cannot.

All-aluminum coil

The coil is all-aluminum rather than copper tube with aluminum fins. Mixing the two metals in a humid or salt-air environment invites galvanic corrosion, which is the most common reason an indoor coil leaks refrigerant years before the rest of the system is worn out. A single-metal coil removes that failure mode entirely.

What to order alongside it

If you are pairing this with a heat pump, supplemental heat lives here, not in the outdoor unit — it is an electric heat kit that slots into the air handler and is sized in kilowatts for your climate and house. It is sold separately and listed in our accessories; your installer should specify the kW rating. This is the single most commonly forgotten item on a heat pump order.

Matching it correctly

Designed to match the RunTru A5AC and A5HP outdoor units. Check the AHRI reference number published on the listing for the exact combination you intend to install — and if you would rather not assemble the match yourself, the complete systems are listed as single items.

Why RunTru by Trane?

See everything we carry from RunTru by Trane

The indoor half of a RunTru system — Trane's own build and Trane's own warranty structure, without the Trane badge premium.

  • Same manufacturer, same engineering discipline. RunTru is not a rebadged import — it is Trane's own product, built to Trane's standards. The badge is different; the build is not.
  • All-aluminum coil. This resists the galvanic corrosion that eats copper-and-aluminum coils in coastal and high-humidity air. The indoor coil is the one that runs wet every cooling hour, so it is the one that benefits most.
  • Multi-position cabinet. The A5AHC installs upright or horizontal, so a closet, an attic and a garage all take the same part number instead of three.
  • Takes a field-installed heat kit. BAYHTR strips plug straight in for a heat pump's backup heat, or for the only heat in an air-conditioner system.
  • The same warranty structure as Trane. Five years base on parts, ten with registration inside 60 days. The value line does not mean a value warranty.

How buying direct works — the whole process, start to finish 6 steps

You are buying the equipment from us and the labour from an installer you choose. Two numbers instead of one bundled quote — which is the point, but it does mean you are the one connecting them. Here is the whole sequence.

  1. Order the equipment. The price on this page is what you pay us. Nothing about installation is included in it, and nothing is added later.
  2. Line up your installer before it ships. This is the step people skip, and it is the one that causes trouble — equipment sitting in a garage while you ring round for someone free. You need a licensed HVAC professional; opening a refrigerant circuit requires EPA certification. Ask specifically what they charge to install customer-supplied equipment. How to find one.
  3. It ships crated on a freight truck. Orders typically ship within 3–7 business days. A complete system travels as two crates — condenser and air handler — which can arrive on different days. Delivery is to your address on a liftgate truck for one flat price, with nothing to choose at checkout. What delivery costs.
  4. The carrier calls to book a delivery window. That appointment is when your equipment arrives — not the ship date. Answer the call; an unanswered one is the most common cause of a delay.
  5. Inspect it before you sign. Two minutes at the tail of the truck decide whether a damage claim works. Note any damage on the delivery receipt specifically, not just "damaged", and photograph it before it comes off the truck. What to check.
  6. Your installer fits it, then register the warranty. Line set, disconnect, whip, thermostat and equipment pad are not included — your installer supplies those. Registering within 60 days of installation takes about four minutes and extends parts coverage from five years to ten. Warranty terms.
